Cases of Drug misuse, including overdose, poisoning, inappropriate self-medication, and improper drug storage and disposal, remains a significant public health issue in Indonesia. Limited public knowledge regarding the proper ways to obtain, use, store, and dispose of medicines contributes substantially to these problems. Many people still assume that all legally marketed medicines can be purchased from any source and that all medications have similar instructions for use and storage. Such misconceptions increase the risk of drug misuse, reduce therapeutic effectiveness, and may negatively affect both human health and the environment. To address this issue, the Indonesian Pharmacists Association (Ikatan Apoteker Indonesia/IAI) introduced the DAGUSIBU program, which stands for Get, Use, Store, and Dispose of Medicines Properly, with the aim of improving public awareness and promoting rational drug management. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of health education based on the DAGUSIBU program in improving community knowledge regarding proper medication management. A descriptive analytic study with a quasi-experimental design was employed. The respondents consisted of 24 mothers and community health volunteers from Posyandu Aster 99, Jember Kidul Village, selected using a total sampling technique. Data were collected using pre-test and post-test questionnaires administered before and after the health education session. Normality testing indicated that the data were not normally distributed; therefore, statistical analysis was performed using the Wilcoxon Signed-Rank Test. The results demonstrated an improvement in participants' knowledge following the educational intervention. The Wilcoxon test yielded a significance value of 0.035 (p < 0.05), indicating a statistically significant difference between the pre-test and post-test scores. These findings suggest that health education based on the DAGUSIBU program is effective in enhancing community knowledge of proper medication management and has the potential to promote the rational and safe use of medicines.
